The High Priesthood at Exodus Church for Bloomington

on Jun 26, 2012 in Bible Study, Featured

I got to speak this past weekend at Exodus Church For Bloomington and it was a lot of fun. Below you’ll see my slides if you want to click through them, and you can listen to the audio from their website here. Just click on “Royal Priesthood” by Dan Sullivan. I do some background on the sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and then get into the rebellion of Korah and his pals. This is all leading us into some more great material that is coming up next. Check back next week for part 2! View the slides full screen...

God’s Providence in a Ford Aerostar

on Jun 25, 2012 in Family Life

In 2007, my family and I returned from a long trek in Central Asia. With lots of uncertainty, we left & gave away our Dodge Caravan to some friends there. We trusted God to provide for us stateside. We came to our temporary apartment from the airport in Evansville and there on the dining room table was the title to a Ford Aerostar! Crossroads and Evansville Auto Mission had provided us with a van! We could see God’s obvious hand in moving us to trust Him and give away our van in Asia. Today, 5 years later, I returned the van to the Auto Mission. It served us well most of the time, brought an element of adventure to every drive (even just driving to church on Sunday!) and kept us from a car payment for the past 5 years. Thanks to the Lord & His people for this chapter of the Sullivan’s transportation. I’m not sure we’ll miss it, but I’m thankful for...

Ignorant & Mute Evangelism

on Jun 15, 2012 in Bible Study, Featured

Titus 3:8-9 NET This saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on such truths, so that those who have placed their faith in God may be intent on engaging in good works. These things are good and beneficial for all people. But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, quarrels, and fights about the law, because they are useless and empty. So if I’m reading this right, good deeds win out over knowledge of a bunch of facts? And am I also reading here that quarrels and fights about rules are useless and empty? As I type this, 3 of my 4 sons are marching around the dinner table singing “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands.” They don’t know the difference between the Decapolis or Smyrna. They can’t tell you what year Jeremiah hid the Ark of the covenant in Ethiopia. They would think that Calvinists and Armenians were other tribes in...

Getting ready to preach at Exodus

on Jun 13, 2012 in Bible Study

In a couple of weeks, I’m going to preach at Exodus Church in Bloomington, Indiana. I’m pretty hyped about this for a number of reasons. My plan right now is to talk about the number one message that God has pounded into me since 2004. WHAT?! Yes. Since sometime around then, God has been beating into me one single message with a lot of tertiary details. It all begins in Numbers 16, with a lot of brass and bravado. Stick around, this is going to be fun.

Comforting Strength: Sermon Notes from CFC 06102012

on Jun 10, 2012 in Featured, Handwritten Blog

Here are my notes from Christian Fellowship Church on June 10th, 2012. You’ll notice that I forgot to take some blank paper. I don’t know if the opening video will ever be online, but if it is, I’ll post about it too.   [meta notes] I posted this with photosnack after shooting it through my stop motion video app for fast stills. They are big and beautiful if you view them full screen, but so hard to read because I wrote all over my bulletin! No chick fil a for me! The fun part is to see how the notes ironically/serendipitously fit with the bulletin printing around them. (Like my note about isolation is surrounded with people’s emails, etc.)...
